I think the optimum for the laser is 80-85 meters. Keep in this range. Get used to looking at the numbers displayed when pointing at a target. This is your damage rates. 120% means your in optimum. That will be vs shields I believe. Aim for center...

I actually do this quite a bit. People think their safe way out in the boonies but the only sound they seem to hear is inertia dampeners going off. That thump for a jumping person landing behind you is probably a threat when your alone.
